The Universal Group, recognized as one of Canada's best-managed companies in 2023, has an exciting opportunity for an Injury Management Coordinator to join our Occupational Health & Safety Team. The Injury Management Coordinator (IMC) is responsible for the administration and management of workers' compensation claims (British Columbia, Ontario) and for the planning, coordination, and implementation of return-to-work (RTW) plans, accommodations and other disability management strategies to reduce the impact of work-related injuries. The IMC will act as a subject matter expert to support the day-to-day operations of the Injured Worker Engagement Program and claim management within the Health & Safety Department, providing input into the program and applying best practices.


What you will be responsible for:

Claims Management

  • Process, manage and monitor workers' compensation claims.
  • Communicate with Workers Compensation Board (BC, ONT) adjudicators and case managers on claims related matters.
  • Provide any requested information to the Workers Compensation Board in connection to employees' claim or their return-to-work.
  • Evaluate and ascertain the legitimacy of claims through the application of Board policies.

Disability Management

  • Provide guidance and support to injured team members.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the return-to-work/disability management process.

Administration

  • Monitor, track and report injury related data and costs impacts.
  • Regularly review and update records to reflect current status and actions taken.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all claims and disability management cases and databases. Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of all information entered.
  • Produce monthly statistical information and report them to necessary parties.
  • Review claims costs, rate and premium statements for accuracy.

Training and Education

  • Educate managers on Universal Group's injury management policies and procedures.
  • Provide training, support, and guidance to different stakeholders on how to carry out their injury management responsibilities.
  • Educate workers, supervisors and managers on their legal obligations as it relates to Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

Special Requirements

  • Assistance in investigations (On call).

What we need from you:

  • Disability management diploma or certificate OR Two (2) years of recent, relevant progressive experience in disability management or claims management.
  • Experience in managing workplace accommodations.
  • Knowledgeable in Legislation and collective agreements.
  • Proficiency in MS suite and Google Workspace (Gmail, Sheets, Docs).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work effectively and cohesively within a team, as well as independently.
  • Nimble Learning - Actively learning through experimentation when tackling new problems, using both successes and failures as learning.
  • Situational Adaptability - Adapting approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations.
  • Manages Complexity - Making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
