Description

Providing backup to part time thrift store clerk positions and reporting directly to the Thrift Store Manager, the Thrift Store Clerk will undertake a range of duties within a thrift store environment, ensuring a high standard of customer service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uphold the core values and mission of the Salvation Army while conducting daily tasks and interacting with customers and other staff members
  • Work well with a team and can work independently
  • Contribute to a positive, uplifting environment within the store for both staff and customers
  • Implement store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays, ensures attractiveness of the store through "Tidy Maintenance"
  • Replenish inventory levels based on Supervisor's directions
  • Process donated items by unloading, sorting, packing, storing, bailing and reloading the donations
  • Lift and relocate bags and boxes to determined areas as required. Assists with heavy lifting as required
  • Climb ladders and store seasonal product in overhead storage bins
  • Separate recycling and garbage, and process both according to the direction given, including into truck for removal
  • Meet assigned daily targets; count, weigh and record incoming and outgoing donations
  • Maintain general cleanliness along with the safety and functionality of warehouse and property in accordance with all safety policies and guidelines
  • Contribute to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions
  • Contribute to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards
  • Provide customer service through offering assistance, processing sales, accepting donations
  • Receive and sort incoming donations in the bay
  • Protect the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
  • Contribute to the health and safety of staff and customers through vigilance and due diligence
  • Take responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of High School

Experience:

  • More than three months of prior, related experience

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Able to concentrate and be flexible
  • The performance of the job requires frequent safety awareness and sorting of donations
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Able to provide positive customer service and attentive listening skills directing visitors and answering telephone calls
  • Physical Effort/Dexterity Required
  • The performance of the job requires frequently standing for long periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching overhead, pulling and pushing, kneeling & lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
