ABOUT COULSON AVIATION

Coulson Aviation is a global aerial firefighting company that operates in Canada, the USA, Australia, and Chile. We produce, maintain and operate a fleet of large aerial firefighting aircraft consisting of both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. With our fleet, we can run rapid aerial fire suppression, including initial attack and extended attack protocols. We are a growing organization that has been in business for 63 years.

Due to our company growth and expanding footprint, we are looking to add an Operator Airworthiness Inspector in Port Alberni, BC.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

The Airworthiness Inspector will be responsible for overseeing quality of inspections as it relates to maintenance carried out on Coulson Aircraft to the highest standard. This individual will double check work as requested by each department, check RII tasks, buyback tasks, records audits, aircraft inspections, and will give final approval on return to service for Flight Critical items.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Travel to aircraft maintenance facilities at various locations to inspect aircraft.
  • Inspect work of aircraft mechanics performing maintenance, modification, or repair and overhaul of aircraft and aircraft mechanical systems to ensure adherence to standards and procedures.
  • Ensure that all work in progress is properly documented as the work is performed, and that corrective actions used have the proper technical data references submitted in the corrective action block.
  • Examine maintenance records and flight logs to determine if the service and maintenance checks and overhauls were performed at the prescribed levels.
  • Inspect new, repaired, or modified aircraft to identify damage or defects. Assess airworthiness and conformance to standards, using checklists, hand tools, and test instruments.
  • Report any findings to the operator for review and to the repair station for rectification in writing.
  • Review Repair Station work order forms and associated documents for accuracy and completeness in accordance with the Repair Station Manual, Quality Control Manual, applicable customer policies and procedures, and applicable 14 CFR regulations prior to approving the aircraft for return to service.
  • Approve or deny Return to Service based on findings.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed repair, inspection, investigation, and certification records and reports.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes, and work with our safety team to come up with comprehensive findings to report back to the repair station.
  • Establish procedure for documentation. Work with the technical records team and fleet managers to develop work packages that have been vetted by the Planning Coordinator.
  • Act as a point of contact for Required Inspection Items (RII) (ICC) work and buy back for field maintenance after work has been completed.
  • Establish via email, picture, video call, etc., that any buy backs that are unable to be completed on site are sent to the representative for approval, documenting and confirming that all steps have been followed for each buy back.
  • Build and set company standards for aircraft specific documents and audit regularly to ensure compliance standards are being consistently met.
  • Learn, review, and communicate with teams in the planning phases of heavy maintenance ensuring the full work scope is understood by all team members.
  • Review and physically check all weight and balance records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Help establish an Operator Standard for weighing all company aircraft, developing standardized terms and procedures for items such as "empty weight, unusable fuel, drained, sumped, trapped, etc." for each aircraft.
  • Thoroughly review all Chart "A" and equipment list for accuracy and completeness.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5 years experiencing working in a quality inspection type role.
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a working AME/A&P professional with a proven ability to competently perform all job functions.
  • Posses working knowledge of aviation parts, materials, and comprehension of the different product types (ie: assemblies, rotables, expendables, consumables etc.).
  • Working knowledge of aircraft products supported by Coulson Aviation, preferred.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of aircraft industry standards & processes.
  • Proactive problem solving and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in MS Office and PowerBI an asset.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer service orientation with demonstrated active listening skills.
  • Planning, organizing, multitasking skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Able to work productively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
