You as an 'Indigenous Relations Lead' will:

  • Support a culture of Indigenous Inclusion. This includes but is not limited to ongoing Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training, recognition of significant Indigenous days of reflection, and PAIR certification.
  • Collaborate with local Indigenous communities and businesses to improve capacity and participation on EllisDon projects.
  • Provide strategic advice, ongoing reporting, and presentations to senior management regarding Indigenous consultation and engagement.
  • Support corporate cultural awareness training and educational initiatives in the BC office.
  • Lead/support project teams' Indigenous Engagement Plans and activities to facilitate opportunities with Indigenous businesses and communities.
  • Support project pursuit and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle. Prepare materials, assist with written RFP and oral submissions as required.
  • Foster relationships and work with Indigenous communities, clients, and governmental stakeholders to support EllisDon's Indigenous engagement strategy and initiatives.
  • Oversee Indigenous relations and associated area data collection and analysis to establish, monitor, and report on area business achievements, including subcontractor engagement, Indigenous employment, training initiatives, and Indigenous community engagement.
  • Prepare quarterly reports for management.
  • Participate in subcontractor and client meetings as required.
  • Participate in corporate socio-economic & Indigenous Relations committee meetings and associated initiatives.

Is this the right role for you?

  • A./ B.S. Degree or College Diploma with 3+ years professional related work experience preferred; ideally in construction, Indigenous relation/studies, human resources
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and cultural impacts associated with major project development.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous traditional and treaty rights, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
  • Experience working in a commercial capacity with Indigenous businesses and Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to Indigenous engagement and the implementation of Indigenous Participation Plans on major projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to interact effectively at all levels within a large organization.
  • Please note, this position requires some travel to different sites and events.
