Position Scope
The role of Research Operator is to efficiently operate and maintain test equipment at the lab, bench, and pilot scale . This includes performing maintenance and upkeep of day-to-day operations of the R&D test equipment. They ensure that equipment is functioning properly, troubleshoot issues, and conduct regular maintenance tasks. Additionally, they contribute to general facility upkeep activities such as keeping the workspace clean and organized. Maintaining facility organization is vital to ensure smooth operations and enhance productivity.
  • This role requires to be onsite at our facility based at 37322 Galbraith Road, Squamish, BC.

  • This role is permanent full-time and requires occasional night shifts and weekend shifts based on research needs.

Safety
  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture.
  • Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace.
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.

Responsibilities
  • Operate research equipment as required.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for plant operations as required.
  • Execute, assess and sign-off on proper LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) procedures.
  • Complete modification/upgrade work packages and other tasks as detailed.
  • Perform lab sampling and analysis to monitor and control plant performance.
  • Adjust process parameters to achieve targeted results outlined in test plans.
  • Execute troubleshooting analysis of research equipment.
  • Perform safety checks and audits.
  • Monitor parameters using HMI and routine plant walk throughs.
  • Monitor, adjust, and complete modifications on equipment.
  • Provide input for or complete reports.
  • Label and tag plant equipment.
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklift and boom lift.


Administration

  • Identify, capture and communicate lessons learned and implement solutions where appropriate.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and permits for plant operations.
  • Request, coordinate and support maintenance requirements with the Maintenance Team.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors working on site.
  • Provide support, guidance, training and coaching for new Operators.

Education and Experience

Education:
  • Chemical Technology Diploma, Engineering Technology Diploma, Power Engineering certification.
Experience:
  • Experience: 2-4 years of plant operations experience in pulp and paper, water treatment, oil and gas or similar industrial environment.
  • 2+ years experience in an industrial or laboratory setting
  • Experience in an R&D environment considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of safe industrial work practices

The base salary for this role is $72,500-$82,000 per year. There is also a bonus incentive.
