Detailed Overview

Under the general supervision of the Electrician/Electronics Technician, Lead Hand or delegate, is responsible for the preventative maintenance, inspection, testing, installation and repair of electrical facilities, equipment and circuitry throughout the Hospital.
Responsibilities

  1. Maintains the Hospital's electrical preventative maintenance program by performing skilled electrical work at the journeyperson level, ensures all other electrical equipment is repaired and maintained as required.
  2. Reviews work requests and consults with user departments to arrange work schedules and discuss specifications and other project requirements.
  3. Interprets blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine material and equipment requirements.
  4. Calculates materials and labour to provide cost estimation of project and makes recommendations as necessary.
  5. Carries out the inspection, installation, preventative maintenance and repair of electrical apparatus such as trayveyors, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, electric motors, switchgear and other related equipment as required. Maintains a record of work performed.
  6. Installs electrical 3-phase wiring and tests all circuitry systems and electrical outlets for faults to comply with safety regulations.
  7. Locates defects by using testing meters and performs repairs as required.
  8. Removes and replaces defective light voltage wiring to ensure local and provincial electrical codes and regulation standards are maintained.
  9. Installs, repairs and upgrades the Hospital Intercom system as required.
  10. Assigns work tasks to designated staff, when required and provides related orientation and training, when necessary.
  11. Maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment and tools and makes recommendations for purchase.
  12. Completes related records and reports.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a Journeyman Electrician recognized by the Province of British Columbia. Two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to organize work.
