Purpose of the Position:

The General Manager, Fraser Surrey is responsible for overseeing, leading and managing the strategy and execution of the DP World Fraser Surrey terminal Operations, Maintenance, HSSE and Administration functions. The incumbent is accountable for leading the team in meeting our Zero Harm objective, and for continual improvement of the operation through development of staff, process development, change management and budget management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure business is customer focused and exceeds service requirements in all areas;
  • Oversee the coordination of operational and maintenance teams to effectively utilize resources to meet and exceed operational and budgetary targets;
  • Accountable for the development and management of the overall Fraser Surrey business unit financial budget.
  • Oversee workplace Health, Safety, Security and Environmental issues in order to minimize risk, ensure compliance with legislative requirements and promote sound business practices that align with our Zero Harm objective.
  • Identify operational training requirements to improve skills of the labour force to meet operational, safety, environment and succession requirements of the business;
  • Implement strategic objectives to grow and develop the business as well as refinement of current processes and practice to ensure consistency and best practice;
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external clients, key stakeholders and ILWU locals;
  • Review processes and procedures, regularly ensuring business requirements and standards are not only being met but also actively improved upon;
  • Maintain and foster positive relationships with existing customers whilst retaining a good understanding of the customer's requirements and an intimate awareness of their contractual terms and conditions;
  • Maintain current business relationships/ contracts and identify and seek new business opportunities;
  • Build energy and engagement around change by using a systematic, structured approach to transition from the present to the desired state in individuals, teams and organizational structures.

What you bring to this role:

  • A degree in business, operational management, engineering, logistics or other related field;
  • Must hold or be capable of qualifying for Marine Transportation Security Clearance;
  • Extensive experience in transportation and logistics.
  • Solid experience in materials handling, logistics or transport/shipping and similar industry experience in a leadership capacity;
  • Demonstrated experience in management of employee/industrial issues, understanding of Safety, Security and Environment requirements;
  • Detailed understanding of legal obligations, commercial and contractual issues relating to operations;
  • Sound understanding of financial and management accounting with previous experience in managing P&L responsibilities;
  • Outstanding leadership skills and the ability to motivate, develop and encourage staff to positively contribute to business goals and objectives;
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral and proven capability to develop and maintain internal/ external client relationships at all levels;
  • High level analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills.
  • Proven business acumen and experience with managing and understanding complex commercial contracts.
  • Advanced negotiating skills particularly in senior level sales negotiation;
  • Must be fluent in English.
