Teck is looking for an experienced Procurement Manager to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management, the Procurement Manager is accountable for the efficient operation of the Purchasing and Warehousing Activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Establish and promote the maintenance of a Safe and Healthy working environment; conform with the Corporate and Trail Operations Safety and Health Programs; ensure personal compliance with Control Document #3843 - Roles and Responsibilities for the Safety & Health System.
  • Administer and direct a wide variety of purchasing, warehouse, surplus sales and related services at Trail operations and ensure the efficient service of all activities in the group.
  • Ensure buying for Trail Operations is carried out efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure Teck pays the lowest required sales tax and duty on the purchases made by Trail Operations.
  • Ensures Trail's automated purchasing systems operate effectively and efficiently with a minimum disruption.
  • Develop the human resources assigned to all the areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure that maximum revenues (surplus sales) and minimum costs (purchasing, and warehousing) are achieved for the activity.
  • Continually attempt to identify opportunities to reduce the cost of goods and services required by Trail Operations.
  • Calculate Teck's Water License Rental costs and ensure Teck's obligatory reporting requirements to the Provincial/Federal governments are met.
  • Negotiate and ensure the purchase and supply of natural gas and ammonia for Trail operations needs.
  • Ensure Trail Operations' landfill is managed in accordance with it's permit requirements and progressive landfill techniques.
  • Contribute to cost effectiveness by preparing group budget for approval and monitoring and controlling costs.
  • Develop a competent well-motivated staff utilizing Performance Management principles, team concepts, providing training opportunities, evaluating performance and recommending placement.
  • Promote the use of emerging technologies (EDI, EFI, etc.) to meet the needs of the operation.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in finance, resource management or related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in inventory, purchasing and warehousing
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory or lead hand role
  • Solid knowledge of purchasing and inventory procedures as well as warehouse management
  • Ability to demonstrate advanced negotiating skills and strong leadership
  • Able to be flexible, decisive and use superb judgment in decision making
  • Effective ability to convey messages in an organized, clear and succinct way
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent inter-personal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort
  • Good communication skills, both orally and written with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.

Salary Range: $132,000 - $163,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Please note this role does require the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail, British Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.
