At SMS Equipment, our Shop Supervisors are dedicated leaders who thrive as part of a dynamic and essential team. In this role, the Shop Supervisor leads a skilled group of tradespeople, ensuring they consistently exceed customer expectations while demonstrating exceptional expertise and attention to detail in everything they do. This position is based in Tumbler Ridge, BC.

The shift rotation for this position is 5x2.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $117,000.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees shop facilities and service operations, ensuring that operational requirements are met through the supervision, coordination, and scheduling of tradespeople's activities. Coordinate work across different trades, conducting in-process inspections, and evaluating the final product to maintain quality standards. Preparing and reviewing technical reports, ensures accurate inventory is ordered and.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities include supporting and developing staff by arranging and tracking training on assigned tasks, ensuring employees rotate through departments for growth. Reviewing schedules to ensure proper allocation of tradespeople, completing employee evaluations, and providing direction to Lead Hands to ensure each department has the support it needs.

  • Customer Service is provided by assisting customers with service information and ensuring resolution for service problems. Prepares reports warranty work orders, quotes and provides administration of all shop work orders.

Qualifications include:

The ideal candidate for this role will have a minimum of 2 years leadership experience and Heavy Equipment Technician, Journeyperson certification. Equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of construction and mining equipment is required.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate a large shop operation.
  • Organized individual, self-motivated and a self-starter.
  • Knowledge of OH&S acts and regulations and equipment inspection requirements.
