Job Summary: Reporting to the Associate Director, Neighbourhood & Youth Services, the incumbent is responsible for the overall patron experience through supervision, organization and administration of a functional area in the library. Responsible for leading and implementing the Library's strategic goals and priorities in Community Library Services, and providing leadership to staff in contributing to the success of the Library as a whole. Demonstrates and sets expectations for the conduct of staff that adhere to the library's policies and procedures in accordance with the Library's vision, mission and values.
The incumbent is part of the leadership team for Neighbourhood Services and works collaboratively within the team and system wide to ensure that service priorities are met. The incumbent employs community development techniques to better understand community needs and address systemic barriers to accessing library services for socially excluded communities.
The incumbent is responsible for the development and coordination of system wide staff training and resources on community engagement and providing library services with a community-led focus.
The incumbent works closely with branches and other functional areas such as Information Services, Circulation Services, Children & Teen Services, Programming & Learning, and Human Resources, as well as the community to ensure that VPL's services are responsive to our patrons' diverse needs and interests and that staff are prepared to deliver services.
