Nature and Scope:

As a dedicated health, safety & environmental coordinator and with your proactive approach to establishing and maintaining safe working relationships, you play a key role in the promotion of the EllisDon Core Values

Duties:

  • Be responsible for site specific safety orientation, job site inspections and accident/incident reports to ensure that equipment materials and production processes do not present a safety or health hazard to employees
  • Monitor employees and subcontractors on site to ensure compliance to health and safety procedures, including standard operating procedures, policies and training as well as escalate issues to leadership for resolution
  • Proactively identify and prevent hazardous situations and take necessary measures to correct them in addition to participating in investigations of safety concerns, incidents and accidents
  • Act as a first aid attendant and be responsible to coordinate emergency response at the workplace.
  • Organize and conduct training programs on issues of workplace safety including but not limited to: WHMIS, Fall Protection, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, Emergency Response and Security.
  • Lead, maintain, and educate all site staff on creating a safety first culture and to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and regulations
  • Review of subcontractors' pre-construction safety submittals and ensure enforcement of procedures on government health and safety standards/regulations
  • Review and file subcontractors' weekly safety submittals
  • Effectively compile weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly project health and safety statistics to help identify trends or required actions to ensure the health and safety of the workplace.
  • Attend client meetings to update the client on safety
  • Be a resource to the various subcontractors and visitors where applicable.

Requirements:

  • You have a minimum of 7-10 years of safety construction experience (Institutional, Commercial, Residential, or Civil Projects)
  • You have the ability to delegate and influence others to follow safety rules and regulations
  • You are working towards, or are already certified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act/Regulations with experience working on a construction site
  • Occupational First Aid Certificate (OFA L2 minimum, with certified Transportation Endorsement) - mandatory
  • You hold a Construction Safety Officer certificate, or are working towards completion of the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certificate for British Columbia.
  • Construction Safety Coordinator Gold Seal certified and/or CRSP designation would be considered an asset
  • International certification (NEBOSH, ISO 45001, IGC, etc) would be considered an asset
  • Experience with the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program
  • Fall Protection expertise

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions. Some health and safety risks. May require safety equipment and precautions.
  • Work requires heavy physical exertion, effort and strain. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 10 to 25 kilograms/20 - 50 pounds
