We own systems that power retail delivery (both customer-facing and back-end), leveraging company-wide technology solutions or designing them from the ground up. Together, DEX is changing how customers experience delivery - from the speed, convenience, and selection features they see on the site every day, to launching Prime delivery benefits and other new programs to customers around the world.

- Our mission is to provide consistent, accurate, and relevant delivery information to every single page on every Amazon-owned site, which means millions of customers will be impacted by your contributions.
- The changes we make directly impact the customer experience on Amazon websites on numerous platforms (mobile/tablets, desktop, set top boxes, etc.).
- This is a highly visible and very critical role, owning tier 1 services in the Amazon Checkout platform.
- You will drive strategic planning and project execution, recruit, hire, and develop the industry's top engineering talent.
- This is a great position for someone who likes backend development and Service-Oriented , but wants to see and measure their direct impact on customers.
- We're looking for candidates that have acted as a technical leader and built high-performance, scalable and robust systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment.


The Software Development Manager will:

- Own development of their systems end-to-end
- Provide technical direction
- Establish and execute short and long-term architectural roadmaps for the business
- Continue to innovate on the framework to support delivery programs worldwide
- Manage multiple development teams focused on creating the complex back-end architecture
- Drive continual improvements to the efficiency and flexibility of the business platform while keeping an extremely high bar for customer trust, performance, and availability.

The ideal candidate has a track record of launching projects with Java/C#, C++, and distributed computing technologies on a Linux platform as well as deep expertise in mobile application platforms.



Key job responsibilities
The Software Development Manager will:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary for this position ranges from $171,400/year up to $286,200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
