We are the Hardware Security team in the Azure Enterprise and Security group, and we are looking for a Software Engineer II to help us transform and evolve hardware security in all Microsoft products and services. Our code powers billions of devices worldwide and is a constant target of ever more sophisticated cyber criminals. We own some of the most important foundational technologies in Azure, Windows, and Xbox that leverage hardware to help protect our customers' data and devices. Our goal is to ensure our devices are among the most secure in the industry, hardware-backed guarantees and enforcements that are malware resistant. Our team owns many foundational technologies and platforms such as TPM (Trusted Platform Module), Pluton security processor, and the Xbox hardware security architecture that our customers rely on for securing their devices.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year experience designing, developing, and shipping large scale software products and services.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience writing high performance systems code that runs natively on hardware. This may include embedded development, OS, compiler, graphics, or other equivalent systems level experience.
  • Experience designing, developing, and shipping device drivers for Windows.
  • Proficient probrem solving and debugging skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work well on a team. A collaborative spirit and a growth mindset.
  • Customer and results oriented with attention to quality and details.
  • Motivated to continuously learn and improve existing solutions.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $83,600 - CAD $159,600 per year.

Responsibilities

In this Software Engineer II role, you will be joining a team of technical engineers in hardware/firmware/software security. You will be responsible for building technologies and platforms that leverage the latest advancements in security and incorporate mitigations based on advanced attacks. You will influence our product technology roadmap aligning to our business goals. You will be part of a team that values team players and those who love to learn while having abundant opportunities to grow personally and professionally. Specifically, you will:

  • Work with product stakeholders to design, develop, and test low level systems code (e.g., Pluton firmware or Windows Device Drivers) and other components to support Pluton Secure Processor on new and existing platforms.
  • Build software prototypes and conduct experiments to evaluate alternative architectures.
  • Contribute to the project engineering plan and execute to deliver, with focus on accountability, learning, and quality.
  • Practice and advocate for good engineering practices and ensure the product is compliant with security, privacy, accessibility, and other compliance requirements.
  • Assist with evaluating and assessing emerging technologies in the hardware security and related areas and partner with product management and other Microsoft teams to define requirements, develop a roadmap, and scope project milestones.
