EY's multidisciplinary Business Tax Incentives - BTI - team, is part of our Business Tax Services practice and specializes in tax credits for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED), Capital Asset Reviews (CAR), and Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits (Clean ITCs). We are a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of tax, audit and science and technology professionals who work with companies of all sizes in a variety of industries to help them maximize their cash/tax savings and achieve their business objectives. We're looking for a qualified Tax Manager to join our team in Vancouver.

The opportunity

As a Tax Manager in BTI, you will have the opportunity to develop in-depth tax knowledge and a sophisticated understanding of business drivers to serve your clients to the best of your ability. With a constantly evolving suite of new incentives and tax credits being made available to companies across Canada, you will help shape how complex and innovative projects impact the Canadian economy for years to come.

As a Tax Manager in BTI, you will:

  • Participate in scoping sessions to determine clients' eligibility for various incentives
  • Provide advice and support during various project planning phases
  • Prepare qualifying expenditure summaries and review expenditures on major capital projects
  • Assist with the preparation of incentive related forms
  • Assist with and lead reviews with the Canada Revenue Agency
  • Work with systems and tools related to various incentives and tax credits
  • Lead and mentor junior members of the team to help them develop their skills and knowledge as well as exceed client expectations
  • Build strong relationships with clients, manage their expectations and meet strict deliverable deadlines while still providing high-quality services and work products
  • Manage client engagements including scheduling, resourcing and delivery
  • Support our local Vancouver practice while integrating into our cross-functional national team
  • Identify opportunities for providing other specialty tax services
  • Demonstrate professionalism through a positive and cooperative attitude and by maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products.


To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, law or another relevant discipline
  • 4 or more years' experience in Canadian Corporate tax or accounting; knowledge of the SRED program and/or the Clean Economy ITCs is an asset
  • A professional accounting or legal credential, such as CPA, CPA In-depth Tax Course, Master's in Taxation or Master of Tax Law
  • Strong skills in Excel, SharePoint and familiarity with tax preparation software
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to interview and effectively probe for information
  • The ability to think quickly and creatively to determine innovate solutions for client problems
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines, both on individual tasks and as part of multi-disciplinary client service team
  • Previous experience in a professional services firm in a tax or audit capacity is an asset

The salary range for this job in British Columbia is $82,000 to $125,000. Individual salaries within this range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and work location city.
