Description

The Community Ministries Worker will interview and provide support and resources for clients, as required by Salvation Army policies and procedures, and will assist in the processing of donated resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client
  • Provides spiritual guidance and uses every opportunity to pray with and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients/families, enabling them to become part of the Body of Christ
  • Through exercising empathetic care, assists individuals to determine an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviours of the client/family
  • Provides emergency assistance services (i.e. housing, shelter, food, clothing, etc.) in accordance with policy
  • Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records
  • May provide budgeting guidance and/or trusteeship services for clients
  • Receives and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations
  • Networks and refers to The Salvation Army, government and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program, when necessary
  • May develop and conduct workshops for clients/families, as appropriate
  • May direct and supervise volunteers as required
  • May assist in organizing seasonal or special programs (i.e. Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Food Drives, Community Dinners, etc.)
  • Will participate in the foodmesh program - unloading/loading donation food crates and sorting food to prepare food for distribution
  • Will assist in general building maintenance and cleanliness -snow shoveling, program room cleaning.
  • May assist with reception duties - taking phone calls, taking donations, handling public inquiries
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of this role.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of High School (an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable)
  • Must be ready to work in Canada - have a valid work permit.

Experience:

  • Up to three (3) months prior experience, including life skills

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Heavy lifting: able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Universal precautions

HOURS: Temporary Contract. 12 hours per week Monday-Friday. Contract will end Jun 1 2025.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
