Our Manager, Logistics & Transportation (Trainee) is a dynamic leader with a strategic vision. With a keen focus on both operational excellence and strategic growth, they are critical in driving our logistics and transportation activities. We're looking for a Manager, Logistics & Transportation (Trainee) to join our head office located in Vernon, British Columbia. Our head office houses Tolko's corporate services groups including Sales, Marketing & Logistics, Finance, Accounting & Credit, IT, Procurement, and Human Resources.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • Experience in supply chain management and leading a team.
  • Post Secondary degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or another relevant field.
  • Experience with rail, truck, and ocean freight transportation management.
  • Experience in forestry, the resource sector, or manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing interests as a leader and for the team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to think and plan strategically.


In this role, you will:

  • Live the Tolko values with an emphasis on safety, respect, progressiveness, integrity, open communication and profit.
  • Develop and empower your team to deliver results.
  • Provide overall leadership, direction, and support for the logistics and transportation activities of all Tolko facilities and joint ventures.
  • Ensure the department negotiates rail, truck, and ocean rates that provide competitive access to markets, while meeting on-time delivery and customer service requirements.
  • Drive logistics and transportation activities with a keen focus on both operational excellence and strategic growth.
  • Liaise with sales and brokerage managers for new reload locations and re-negotiate existing reloads that are underperforming.
  • Support down channel sales strategies by expanding reload networks to support existing and prospective customers.
  • Manage Profit and Loss Centers of Lulu Island Terminals and Lease Fleet. Negotiate agreements and manage the business units to protect Tolko interests and drive margin.
  • Look for ways to continuously improve operating performance of Tolko logistic assets.
  • Manage key supplier relationships and communications.
  • Analyze/evaluate and make recommendations on methods of transportation, geographic considerations, and business plans.
  • Prepare, submit, and be responsible for annual budgets and business plans.
  • Conduct performance and salary reviews for all direct reports. Train employees in safe working practices to ensure compliance with regulations and Tolko policies.
