Position Summary

Thales requires an AJISS Program Engineer to work as part of the AJISS Engineering team. As a Program Engineer your primary role is to support the AJISS Service Delivery team with the management of defects for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPVs) and Joint Support Ships (JSS).

As an AJISS Program Engineer, you will also support the AJISS Engineering and Supportability Team with various activities such as development and implementation of Engineering Changes, creation of Deviations & Waivers or survey on board the ships while alongside.

Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility

The AJISS Program Engineer will report to the Engineering Services Lead and liaise with the Service Delivery group to provide timely support with Defects resolution.

Assigned tasks are to be completed in accordance with Thales quality and commercial guidelines, contracted time and cost requirements. This includes but is not limited to performing the following:

  • Provide direction on way forward during Corrective Maintenance.
  • Conduct technical investigation into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development.
  • Prepare documented work scopes associated with Defect investigation/resolution, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers.
  • Develop and/or approve technical Job Instructions.
  • Coordinate with other Thales staff (Mechanical, Electrical and Hull Engineering and Naval Architecture staff) and/or Subcontractors to achieve the agreed outcomes within the delegated authorities and responsibilities.
  • Support Engineering Team from Ottawa for Engineering Change process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An Engineering degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or naval architecture.
  • Minimum of 5 years maritime experience in Ship Repair, Ship Building or Ship Operational Experience.
  • P.Eng in British Columbia
  • Language: English (Essential)

Special Position Requirements

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week.
  • Work Location: Hybrid: Will be required to work from the Thales office (Malahat facility)/Dockyard (about 80% of the time) and home (about 20%).
  • Physical: Mix of office work and work in dockyards and onboard Naval Ships; will be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting; willing to work aloft and in confined spaces on board ships (training to be provided).
  • Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of the ships or the AJISS Enterprise.
