Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Methods, the Senior Methods Engineering Technologist - Supplier Development will be responsible for technical and planning support to suppliers to ensure seamless production and delivery of components and materials to De Havilland's product lines. You will collaborate with internal teams and visit external suppliers to assist in auditing their processes, schedule adherence, driving process improvements, implementing best practices, and ensuring suppliers meet our manufacturing and schedule requirements.

Please note this role is a combination of in-office and offsite (at Suppliers) and is located in either Calgary, AB, Victoria, BC and or Toronto, ON.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal teams to revise Engineering Masters (EM), Work Instructions (WI), Statement of Work (SOW) packages, Conditions of supply (COS) to define parts, processes, sequence and special instruction required to purchase or build a part/assembly
  • Visit external suppliers and assist in auditing their processes, recommending alternatives, report back to company on progress, status, risks, etc.
  • Partner with internal teams, including Procurement, Quality, and Engineering, to align supplier performance with company goals
  • Provide technical expertise to suppliers to enhance their capabilities and resolve manufacturing challenges on new and existing builds
  • Develop and implement supplier performance metrics, tracking adherence to cost, quality, and delivery expectations
  • Assist Suppliers in developing plans to increase efficiency
  • Record and submit Engineering change requests for changes to build, design and tooling required to improve efficiency and quality of builds including Make vs Buy decisions
  • Assist in implementing Engineering changes into Supplier made parts/assemblies
  • Assist in Investigation of root cause of manufacturing problems and liaise with other functions to analyze potential solutions by evaluating cost, impacts and risks of a change in production
  • Support in the qualification of manufacturing processes and tooling within the supplier facility
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including internal/external audits
  • Assist with training of Production, QC, Methods Engineering and co-op personnel

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of progressive hands-on experience in a large detail part and/or assembly manufacturing environment, preferably in the aerospace industry
  • Combination of education and experience in aerospace and/or manufacturing will be considered
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering or Engineering Technology; or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience (e.g. Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Assembler, etc.)
  • Previous experience in a Manufacturing Engineering, Planning or Methods role
  • Knowledge of the fabrication and assembly of aircraft parts, structures, and systems
  • Strong customer focus and good communication/ interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Aerospace engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues
  • Ability to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings
  • Advanced knowledge in MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiar with computer aided design software such as CATIA, Enovia, AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc.
  • Ability to manage and act on multiple projects and priorities at one time
  • Innovative thinker and ability to use solid judgement during the decision-making process
  • Must possess and maintain a valid passport and be willing/able to travel both domestic and internationally when required
