If you answered yes, our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site located near Pinawa, Manitoba, is looking for Decontamination Workers to decontaminate contaminated areas and equipment, perform contamination control activities, and be responsible for facility compliance routines in support of the WL Radiation Protection program. What will you be doing!

  • Assisting in cleaning and decontaminating areas, buildings, equipment, and materials related to radioactive contamination by applying routine or specialized cleaning procedures.
  • Providing a decontamination service when hazardous contamination levels are suspected or known to exist to support on-going operational and decommissioning activities at Whiteshell Laboratories.
  • Assisting fellow Radiation Protection (RP) staff and facility management with implementing contamination control techniques to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Assisting other employees with entry/exit protocols associated with working in radiological contaminated areas which includes dressing and undressing with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment & Clothing (PPE&C).
  • Packaging and handling of active and non-active hazardous waste materials according to radiation protection procedures.
  • Responsible for facility compliance routines to support the Whiteshell Radiation Protection Program. This includes cleaning CA2 facilities and areas and gathering and bagging active waste throughout the facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Grade 12 education or equivalent is required.
  • Experience
    • Two (2) years of experience working in a radioactive environment is desired, where you have been acquainted with established practices and procedures for radiological and industrial safety.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Decontamination work experience and janitorial experience are considered an asset.
    • Punctual, dependable, and safety-minded.
    • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
    • Ability to lift and move items in a decommissioning/construction environment.
    • Possess a strong commitment to performing assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
    • A well-organized individual, who enjoys working with a team in an operational and decommissioning setting.
    • Possess a keen sense of individual responsibility, and strong motivation to achieve group goals.
    • Responsible, reliable and possess initiative.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Microsoft Mail, Excel).
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required

    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

  • Compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am.
