Our Whiteshell (WL) location is looking for a Facility Manager to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the WL Facilities. Can you see yourself overseeing a team of Operators, Technicians, and engineering staff, working with them on tasks such as planning/scheduling, training and equipment reliability? What will you be doing!

  • Maintaining and approving changes to safety system test frequencies and test procedures.
  • Approving non-routine operations, cell requests, experiments, and facility modifications.
  • Approving and implementing the Facility Governing Document Indices (GDI) and Facility operating procedures.
  • Managing the emergency response function within the Facility.
  • Ensuring that the minimum staffing for all operations is maintained.
  • Ensuring compliance with the requirements of all Health, Safety, Security, Emergency, and Quality programs.
  • Facilitating nuclear criticality safety panel approvals for Facility Criticality Safety Documents and ensuring compliance with its contents.
  • Ensuring Facility Operations staff are trained and qualified to perform work.
  • Reviewing and approving Facility Systematic Approach Training (SAT) based training for content and implementation.
  • Providing Facility Authorization for Integrated Work Control.
  • Ensuring that the Facility and equipment are in an appropriate state for safe operations and maintenance.
  • Ensuring the Facility Maintenance Plan is current and implemented.
  • Overseeing projects led by this team to ensure problems are identified and managed or resolved quickly.
  • Participating in the interviewing, training, and development of personnel for the facility operations team.
  • Providing supervision, oversight, direction, and coordination of the work activities and the safety of the workers executing work in his/her facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing.
    • Or a two-year Technical Diploma plus at least 10 years' experience in nuclear operations or in other industries that would be relevant to the operation of nuclear facilities.
    • Membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization or eligible for membership in that organization.
  • Experience
    • Eight (8) years' of relevant engineering experience in the nuclear field.
    • Experience in remote handling and facility operation, including reactor operation and maintenance is an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Strong understanding of the Canadian Nuclear and Safety Control Act, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission regulations, and other applicable legislations/regulations.
    • Working knowledge of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and other engineering, construction, and decommissioning standards applicable to the WL decommissioning mission.
    • Effective team membership and leadership skills to develop collaborative relationships with colleagues and subordinates.
    • Self-motivating, disciplined, and able to work independently, collaboratively, and in difficult/high pressure situations.
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
    • Good overall knowledge of work place safety issues, work permit system, site rules, union agreements, company policies, procedures, and programs.
    • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    • Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements, and to work under pressure.
    • Demonstrated exemplary sound judgment as demonstrated by a conservative approach toward nuclear and personnel safety.
    • Able to prepare accurate resource and cost estimates and schedules, run and report progress on multiple concurrent jobs.
    • Proven track record as a strong leader, with the ability to motivate team members.
    • Validated high personal standards of performance, and commitment to the safe operation of the facility.
    • Knowledge of nuclear operations is an asset. Specifically knowledge of remote handling and reactor operations and maintenance.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am.
