If you answered yes, our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site located near Pinawa, Manitoba is looking for a Field Services Planner (Planning Coordinator). The Field Services Planner develops and builds work planning packages and work instruction packages to support maintenance, construction and decommissioning activities by coordinating and conducting field level walk down assessments. The assessments are to identify industrial hazards and subsequent mitigations, layout and sequence the detailed field work execution activities and provide a forecast of the resource requirements required. The Planner also provides support to the Work Control Manager and other Branches, Programs and Division members and is responsible for performing their work in a safe, efficient and timely manner. What will you be doing?

• Leading in the development and improvement of the WL Integrated Work Control program and initiatives.
• Interfacing with customers, project groups, maintenance work group and support groups to determine preventative maintenance requirements to meet regulatory requirements.
• Leading the planning of safe work activities using the Integrated Work Control process incorporating a thorough understanding of WL computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and planning processes.
• Leading the development and technical writing of the Work Instruction Packages to create safe and comprehensive field ready work execution packages.
• Identifying and coordinating required Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and project teams to build a "Planning Team" to create Work Instruction Packages.
• Refining work scope and job steps with Planning Team, identify all associated hazards and implement mitigations.
• Learning and following CNL procedures; implement into Work Instruction Packages to maintain highest level of safety and efficiency to conduct all work on site.
• Providing assistance to create estimates of duration, forecast outlook of trade and support resources requirements and costs associated to work activities to ensure WL baseline schedules can be maintained.
• Providing weekly updates on work instruction package development.
• Working with SMEs to ensure proper resources are scheduled against a specific scope of work.
• Facilitating field execution tasks through coordination of work activities with other work groups, Project Supervisors, Lead hands as well as scheduling of resources.
• Assisting to improve and enhance Key Performance Metrics and Resource Capacity Forecasting to assist cross functional teams in achieving site wide decommissioning milestones and deliverables.
• Providing leadership and cross functional team engagement of the continuous improvement initiative with the "6" S ("5S" Lean Management Philosophy + Safety Culture).
• Enhancing safety culture and organizational excellence through leadership, accountability, communication and process improvement.
• Making recommendations supporting the principle of continuous improvement.
• Assisting customer groups with developing and updating maintenance plans, Work Instruction Packages and suggesting changes.

• Completing other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • A Journeyperson trades certification with five (5) years or more of relevant experience or minimum three (3) years Technical College.
    • A combination of education and experience combined with a minimum five (5) years of technical maintenance / work management experience will be considered.
  • Experience
    • A minimum five (5) years of experience planning work, work management exposure and demonstrated the technical ability to assume responsibilities as described above.
    • A demonstrated ability to draft and develop detailed field work execution plans/activities including safe work instructions by identifying industrial hazards and employing hazard mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Effective team building and communication skills.
    • Self-motivating, disciplined and able to work independently and collaboratively with all departments on site.
    • Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements with an ability to work under pressure.
    • Detail orientated with the ability to meet deadlines and demonstrate initiative and sound judgement to organize and maintain the flow and accuracy of multiple Work Instruction Packages.
    • Familiarity with maintenance work procedures, N286 documentation, General Conduct of Operations, site procedures and work permit requirements.
    • Must have the ability to read and interpret Engineered Drawings.
    • Have a keen understanding of Work Control ideologies and be willing to promote new ideas using good communication and problem solving skills.
    • Must perform duties in a manner that promotes a nuclear safety culture, efficiency, department and Nuclear Operations goals and objectives.
    • Ability to provide constructive feedback and dialogue for the Work Control teams to ensure proper job status and take suitable actions for resolving conflicts.
    • Must be competent in verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to stay motivated and achieve the established department goals and objectives.
    • A basic understanding of nuclear and conventional American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Canadian piping and pressure vessel codes, Canadian Building Codes, and HVAC Systems/Codes.
    • Must possess a working knowledge of the current Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act and Manitoba Building Codes/Act.
    • Must have experience with selecting parts and materials for repair/replacement of process equipment relevant to WL facilities and maintenance management practices.
    • Must be willing to undergo additional training appropriate to the position, e.g. Quality Assurance, Applicable Codes, Team Building Skills, etc.
    • Must maintain an up to date working knowledge of the Company procedures and general safety regulations.
    • Extensive knowledge of site systems and equipment.
    • Skilled in use of computer programs (Word and Excel) and willingness to participate in continuing training in related software.
    • Must have the ability to write technical comprehensive Work Instruction Packages.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions

• Must possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, standing, climbing, walking, lifting and mobility.
• Must be capable of wearing protective clothing and using safety equipment as required.
• Walking, sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
• Working in an office environment.
• Ability to perform field level walk downs.
• When in the field there may be exposure to the elements such as heat, cold, dust, construction equipment traffic etc.
• We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am.
