About the Role

The HSE Supervisor supports the Regional HSE Manager and gives direction to the HSE Senior Coordinator and HSE Coordinator, acting as a RSM in regions where a RSM is not required. The incumbent is responsible for client interaction, safety status updates, and staying current on the project, as well as Road to Zero reports, statistical data, and possibly some monthly reporting.

As a HSE Coordinator at Graham you will:

  • Take responsibility for own health, safety, and environmental protection, as well as that of direct reports, the general public, and visitors to the site(s).
  • Support Project Managers, Superintendents and HSE Regional Managers to ensure the elements of the HSE MS are communicated to Operational personnel and HSE Project Coordinators.
  • Ensure all project incidents are uploaded into Graham Incident Management software.
  • Support Project Managers and project teams in facilitating and completing GRAs.
  • Compile and summarize HSE statistical data, identify undesirable trends, and recommend corrective action.
  • Assess site-specific requirements and / or review of the PSSP.
  • Assist Project Supervision in the implementation and communication of the PSSP.
  • Assess local regulations, client requirements, emergency protocols, safe work plans and procedures, and codes of practice for the PSSP.
  • Contribute expertise to investigations of all project incidents.
  • Report on the effectiveness of the HSE MS to Regional HSE Manager.
  • Accompany local government HSE inspectors and project Superintendent for inspections and ensure corrections to compliance with legislation are taken.
  • Ensure ERP and other related emergency documents, bulletins, and notices are posted and communicated to workers.
  • Ensure all required HSE reports and meeting minutes are filed, with copies sent to the appropriate personnel for review and corrective action.
  • Assist project Supervisors and / or Foremen in conducting incident investigations, analysis, and completion of incident reports and summaries.
  • Conduct formal (documented) project inspections with the project Superintendent and a worker to ensure hazards are identified, and a corrective action plan is developed and implemented.
  • Support Project Supervision with claims management and return-to-work processes.
  • Meet with Operations Manager to discuss training needs.
  • Assist with the safety-management budget.
  • Interact with regulatory bodies and clients, taking a hands-on approach and acting as the point of contact.
  • Deal with issues and support Operations as required.
  • Demonstrate HSE and Quality behaviours that reflect corporate expectations of Actively Caring and Road to Zero.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • High school graduation and completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school.
  • Certification in Health and Safety, or a safety designation is an asset.
  • 5+ years of experience in safety or a related field.
  • Understanding of how HSE MS systems work.
  • Knowledge of volume of work, size of team, and size of organization standards.
  • Strong understanding of provincial / state regulations.
  • Deep knowledge of WCB processes.
  • Strong grasp of safety terminology.
  • Ability to prepare and facilitate meetings and presentations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to persons of varying roles and levels of understanding.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and online reporting software.
