About Us

Incorporated in 1955, Ocean Steel services several markets, including Atlantic Canada, the Eastern United States, Bermuda and the Caribbean. Although they specialize in fabricating and erecting structural steel for buildings and bridges, they also manufacture and install platework, such as breechings, stacks, ducts, penstocks, process & storage tanks and custom process-equipment. Ocean Steel's two New Brunswick plants include the original location in Saint John, as well as the York Steel Plant in Fredericton, which was acquired by Ocean Steel in 1995

Responsibilities:

  • Metal core (MCAW) welding on structural steel building components
  • Operate various welding equipment and tools to weld in various positions (i.e., Vertical/Horizontal)
  • Set up wire fed welding machines manually using control buttons
  • Review structural drawings for steel beams, columns, and other building components that form complete structures
  • Operate overhead cranes to transport workpieces and metal components

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of pre-employment college program or equivalent experience
  • Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification (Block 1)
  • New Brunswick Class B Welder's Certificate a definite asset
  • 1 to 3 years' experience in structural steel welding
