As an Intermediate Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Field Engineer, you will be a member of Irving Oil’s Engineering Services team supporting E&I capital project work, turnaround engineering, planning, and construction at the Irving Oil Refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick. You will act as a liaison between our Engineering Services team located at the Saint John Home Office and the Refinery Engineering / Construction Teams. Your goal will be to provide field engineering support at the refinery as required, develop work packages to support multi-discipline work, perform field walks, work with maintenance and operations to solve difficult or unusual electrical and instrumentation problems, and enhance collaboration between Engineering Services and Refinery Engineering Teams.

Your Responsibilities:
Prepare electrical heat tracing design packages to support turnaround piping modifications
Prepare design packages to support instrumentation upgrades (flow meter upgrades, transmitter upgrades, motor operated valve upgrades, etc.)
Supporting capital projects & maintenance scope by preparing engineering deliverables such as engineering work orders, material requisitions, attending project field walks, walking down final installations
Configure protective relays for motors and feeders
Responding to questions from electrical and instrumentation contractors and providing direction as required adhering to the Canadian Electrical Code, Irving Oil standards, and Industry best practices and standards
Onsite engineering support during the annual Refinery Turnaround event

Ability to read, interpret, and translate engineering drawings and specifications
Design knowledge of electric heat tracing, LV/MV power distribution, motor and feeder protection, small power, lighting, and grounding
Ability to read Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
Familiar with electrical hazardous area classification requirements
Strong understanding of Microsoft Office applications
Able to work in the field: this includes working in year-round weather conditions, able to bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, etc. and able to lift up to 20lbs. You must be comfortable with high elevation climbing, working at heights, and in enclosed spaces. You must be able to wear full PPE as required by safety standards
Your Experience:
University bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is preferred
Knowledge of complex engineering processes and designing procedures and policies
Familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code and other various industry standards and best practices (IEEE, API)
Minimum 8 years’ experience in engineering discipline
Experience with AutoCAD drafting software is an asset
Electrical Heat Tracing design experience is an asset
