As a Kitchen Steward at our Refinery Café in Saint John NB, you will support our company strategy by creating a branded employee experience within the café. You will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and front of house areas. Your goal will be to wash dishes, clean cooking equipment and surfaces, restock supplies, dispose of waste, maintain hygiene standards, and assist in deep cleaning, keeping the café storage areas stocked and organized including rotating inventory. You will also be responsible for basic food preparation and café operations including supporting front of house by answering telephone on occasion and taking orders and processing payments. Your success will ensure a positive customer service experience every time.

Kindly note, this is a Monday to Friday day shift position.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including the dish washing machine, hand wash stations pot-scrubbing station
  • Wash and sanitize kitchen and storage areas, tables, tools, knives, shelving, and equipment
  • Ensure chemicals are stored in appropriate areas, pull, and stack cleaned items and return to their proper storage locations
  • Send soiled items back for re-scrubbing and re-washing
  • Empty, wash maintain trashcans. Clean, sweep and mop all areas in the kitchen and front of house
  • Break down cardboard boxes and remove all garbage to the bins outside The Café
  • Record daily logs required in your area
  • Report any maintenance needs to manager
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others; support team to reach common goals
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards
  • Assist with basic food prep activities as needed
  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested

Your Skills:

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly energetic attitude
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Kitchen prep experience

Your Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the food service industry
