Refinery Emergency Response - Summer Student

As an Emergency Services student at the Saint John Refinery with our Emergency Services team, you will assist our Fire Chief, Emergency Response (ER) Trainer, and ER Shift Specialists in ensuring the performance and readiness of our emergency response equipment. You will learn about the fire protection equipment used at our Refinery, Canaport Mispec, and East Saint John Terminals as well as equipment carried on all our emergency response vehicles.

In this role you will take part in morning meetings and assist the ER Team with various tasks such as: equipment checks, fire hose testing, labeling assets such as hydrants, assisting and taking part in exercises, auditing such things as hydrants, fire box contents, extinguishers. You will also assist in reviews and building of pre-plans and testing building evacuation documents.

Your Skills:

  • Safety as a core value mindset; follow all safety protocols and procedures
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative thinker; problem solver
  • Knowledge of MS Office and Excel
  • Knowledge of Google Earth Pro would be an asset
  • Able to bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl etc., and able to lift up to 20lbs (Some of the workload includes moving heavy equipment)
  • Comfortable with high elevation climbing, working at heights and confined spaces
  • Able to wear full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required by safety standards
  • Valid Canadian driver's license

Your Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program
  • Must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and be returning to school
