The Senior Manager, Terminal provides leadership, guidance and oversight to all terminal operations to ensure the proper people and procedures are in place to continually improve the facility and deliver superior customer service. The Senior Manager, Terminal shall also participate in strategic planning and implementation. The Senior Manager, Terminal is responsible in ensuring safety, morale and contribution margins.

Key responsibilities

  • Accountable to ensure sector meets KPI's to achieve budget/business success.
  • Model a culture of safety that reinforces the direct reports to achieve safety targets and to create best practices in safety throughout terminal and sector operations.
  • Work with General Manager on forecasts, reporting on safety, budget, operations productivity and management of costs with ongoing action for continuous improvement
  • Provide performance management and reviews of direct reports on a regular basis.
  • Liaise with the Maintenance department to monitor and update appropriate service level agreement (SLA).
  • Actively coach and develop leaders within FS with one-on-one meetings and performance development plans (PDPs).
  • Lead incident investigations to ensure a thorough approach with documentation and resolution.
  • Schedule Operations team staffing in accordance with business needs.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Skills

  • 5 years of leadership experience in logistics or a similar field.
  • A degree in business, logistics or similar field is preferred.
  • A positive, hands on approach and the ability to work as a team member.
  • Excellent people management skills with well-formed motivational skills, including solid negotiation, influencing, change management and labour relations skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain good working relationships and achieve buy in and ownership to quality standards/ initiatives with all departments and levels.
  • Sound judgement and analytical thinking that enables decision making, ability to manage projects and prioritize and manage timelines.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all terminal operations (gate, rail, yard, vessel) and regulations.
  • Solid computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the proven ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Flexibility to meet the requirements of a 24/7 operation.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
