As a Special Emphasis Program Inspector, you will play a key role in the operations of our Saint John Refinery. The analysis and inspections that you perform facilitate continuous improvement of inspection programs, processes, and operations, ensuring our assets operate in an efficient and safe manner. Your goal will be to execute special emphasis program inspection activities to ensure that all assets are fit for continued service while also ensuring internal integrity processes and procedures are maintained and followed.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate problem solving, root cause and fixed equipment risk management processes

  • Perform preliminary assessment and analysis to determine the condition of equipment and fixed assets, recommend and advocate solutions

  • Assist in the development, maintaining and implementation of refinery wide inspection special emphasis programs. These include developing procedures and evaluating pressure vessels and piping. Some of these programs include high temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA) assessments, wet H2S corrosion, polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking, retroactive PMI, Low Silicon A53 Gr B inspection, Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI), Corrosion Under Fireproofing (CUF) etc

  • Ensure inspection techniques are effective for applicable damage mechanism(s)

  • Develop and manage project budgets

  • Work with cross-functional teams on execution strategy

  • Support materials engineering to address any degradation issues, e.g. cracking, corrosion, erosion, etc

  • Demonstrate safety practices with all procedures

  • Ensure that all asset integrity processes and procedures are maintained and followed

  • Provide inspection coverage for major and maintenance projects, as required

  • Participate in on call rotation

  • Evaluate data involving the use of corrosion rates, remaining life, level 1 fitness for service, and RBI

  • Perform documented audits in accordance with the company standards and practices

  • Maintain reporting and record keeping to department policy and standards

Your Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills; you enjoy getting to the root cause of issues and creating plans to address them

  • Willingness to learn and adhere to all company standards, industry recommended practices, codes and standards

  • A focus on continuous improvement; come up with creative solutions that minimize downtime and refinery risks efficiently and in a cost-effective manner

  • Experience dealing with multiple priorities and deadlines

  • Work well in a team environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new programs

  • Knowledge of MS office applications, particularly Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint

  • Experience with Meridium Asset History database considered an asset

Your Experience:

  • Certified to API, mechanical engineering (mechanical, materials, chemical, etc), or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of experience in an industrial plant or refinery setting considered an asset

  • Previous experience in damage mechanism identification and corrosion analysis is an asset

  • Experience developing inspection plans based on RBI methodologies

  • Project budget management experience

  • API certifications 570, 571, 510 or 653, and / or NDE certifications are a definite asset

  • Must have a Class 5 Driver's License
