As a Supply Planning Engineer you will work closely with our Supply Chain Planning team to make recommendations for refinery short and long term planning. Following the Linear Program (LP), our refinery economic planning model, you will prepare and present data, reports, and recommendations. Your success will be to carry out technical tasks that require very precise calculations, completely of data, and adhere to all prescribed work processes.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Use the Refinery Economic Model for refinery planning, feedstock evaluation, and blend stock evaluation.

  • Provide supporting information to feed into weekly, monthly, annual and turnaround operating plans.

  • Work with crude and product traders to update market data used in the planning model.

  • Use the LP model to identify and evaluate opportunities.

  • Perform strategic investment studies and implement any necessary changes in order to support the strategic plan.

  • Manage the reconciliation between the LP generated plan and the validated refinery yields; support with precise calculations.

  • Recommend and implement enhancements to both the model and the management process.

  • Ensure that the Linear Program (LP) is an accurate economic representation of the physical assets and is tuned to the current performance of the assets.

  • Ensure that the deviation between the current LP and actual refinery operation is monitored and understood by key decision makers.

  • Confer with expert consultants to ensure the LP has the correct structure to model the refinery in order to maximize the value created by the physical assets in the supply chain.

  • Confer with other teams to ensure that the LP is tuned to match current unit performance. This may require vector development as well as plant test runs for validation.

  • Perform other duties as required to contribute to department productivity.

  • Knowledge of complex engineering concepts, practices and procedures.

  • Strong relationship building skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize and plan.

  • Demonstrated understanding of refinery operations.

  • Able to learn new software quickly.

  • Good knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Able to use features such as pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, IF statements, etc. in Excel.

Your Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred), or equivalent experience.

  • 5+years of experience in engineering concepts.

  • 3+ years of experience in refinery operations is a definite asset.
