The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University is North America's most comprehensive marine institute dedicated to education, training, applied research, industrial response, and technology transfer in support of oceans industries. The School of Maritime Studies within the Marine Institute is involved in a wide variety of education and training for the marine industry. This includes three and four year technology diplomas covering all aspects of the marine transportation industry, including Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering Systems Design, Marine Engineering and Nautical Science programs. Our state-of-the-art facilities include the world's most advanced marine simulation and related technology in support of the fisheries, aquaculture, marine transportation and offshore industries. In partnership with the ocean industries, the Marine Institute helps cultivate their growth, provides scientific and technical expertise, and nurtures industrial assistance, consultancy service, applied research and technology transfer. The Centre for Marine Simulation is part of the School for Maritime Studies and is actively involved in the delivery of a variety of training programs using a wide range of simulation tools. It is also involved in a number of industrial response projects designed to address operational issues in the offshore oil and gas industry, the shipping industry, and other marine related sectors. The Centre is industry recognized for its expertise in developing simulations and scenarios to represent harsh environments and challenging ocean condition with a particular focus on ice covered waters. The variety of work ranging from delivery of regulated simulation training programs to involvement in specific projects and applied research makes for a dynamic work environment for any individual

DUTIES

The successful applicant will be required to teach or assist in the teaching of various courses offered by the Centre for Marine Simulation. Duties include developing and delivering maritime operations simulation courses and programs; updating existing courses and course materials; providing expertise as part of the Centre's industrial assistance program; assisting in the conduct of applied research and development projects; assisting with the School of Maritime Studies on line industry courses offered through the University's Learning Management System and performing other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (5 years) at the command level, involved in offshore oil and gas supply/support operation or the marine transportation industry; possession of a Transport Canada Certificate of Competency at the Master Mariner level, Dynamic Positioning certification as well as ship handling experience, and an undergraduate degree in a relevant area to maritime studies; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Experience operating within polar and ice covered waters is also an asset.

SALARY Commensurate with Marine Institute Instructors' Collective Agreement (NAPE Local 7405)
