About the role

As a Technical Illustrator, you will be an integral member of the Technical Publications team and you will be responsible for:

  • Using 3D models to develop exploded views, isometric views and interactive wiring diagrams to be used in documentation such as maintenance manuals, operation manuals, user manuals, service bulletins, and parts lists
  • Reviewing existing graphics to ensure that they conform to all technical graphic requirements as well as all style guidelines
  • Working collaboratively within the technical publications group and with subject matter experts to ensure that all illustrations are developed as efficiently and as accurately as possible
  • Working with other departments on an as-needed basis to help with graphical workload peaks
  • Meeting quality, cost and schedule requirements for assigned projects
  • Participating in a team environment focused on innovation, efficient work processes and customer satisfaction.

What you bring to the role

  • At least 5 years experience in a similar role developing technical illustrations to be used in structured content, particularly in S1000D
  • At least 5 years experience using technical illustration software such as VizEx 3D, IsoDraw, Tech Illustrator, CreoIllustrate, Inventor or other similar tools
  • Proven experience managing a large volume of illustrations for Technical Publications
  • Experience developing illustrations to comprehensive illustration style guides
  • Ability to communicate clearly with teammates within the technical publications team as well as with subject matter experts within the integrated logistics support, training and engineering teams
  • Ability to solve problems both independently and collaboratively in order to meet deadlines
  • Superior attention to detail, the ability to follow set procedures, and a desire for accuracy in job performance
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Canadian government security clearance.

Additional skills desired for the role

  • Experience with Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) technical publications and format
  • Experience with graphic design and developing artwork to be used in promotional or marketing materials
  • Experience in leadership and mentoring positions.
