Position Overview:

To plan, organize, control and lead the technical activities and resources of the Avionics Engineering Section of the Aircraft Engineering department, to ensure aircraft airworthiness and compliance with all customer and company requirements.

The Avionics Engineering Supervisor will report to the IMP Group Ltd. - Aerospace and Defence location near the Halifax International Airport.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide supervision, technical guidance and leadership to the Avionics Engineering staff.
  • Provide Section Project Management surveillance to ensure tasks are completed on time and within budget, and assign manpower as required.
  • Plan workload and manpower requirements for section.
  • Liaise with the customers, IMP Senior Management and the various Company departments as required to ensure airworthiness, cost effectiveness and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Analyze aircraft and component deficiencies and make recommendations to the customer for rectification.
  • Represent the Company at technical meetings with the customer, the aircraft manufacturer, or other outside agencies as required.
  • Prepare estimates and proposals for work to be carried out in the section.
  • Participate in staff recruitment, development, performance evaluation.
  • Review and approve engineering designs and data if so authorized.
  • Review reports for accuracy, grammar and technical content.
  • Prepare and review Statements of Work as required.
  • Provide technical advice to the customer if so requested and required.
  • Where assigned overall responsibility for particular projects, shall exercise control over scheduling, progress, material and costing directly controlled by Engineering section.
  • Prepare Engineering reports, plans, and studies.
  • Evaluate areas of revenue potential.
  • May be required to assume some or all the duties of the Manager Aircraft Engineering.
  • Complete or provide technical investigations, services and engineering support activities as required and requested by the customer.
  • Complete Avionics/Electrical engineering design to retrofit/modifications/repair/prototype installations.
  • Complete electrical loads analyses and prepare reports.

What You Will Bring:

  • B. Eng. or B. Sc. (Eng) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer status or eligibility for membership in ENS is considered an asset.
  • 6+ years experience in an Engineering environment primarily dealing with aircraft electrical and avionics systems is required. Recent (within 2 years) applicable relevant experience is desirable.
  • Very good knowledge of aircraft electrical/avionics systems and their relevant analytical method and tools is required.
  • Familiarization with customer procedures is desirable.
  • Good communicative abilities are required.
  • Good leadership, guidance and delegation skills are required.
  • Demonstrated good project management skills.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies. Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and to fully comply with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 8S activities in your area.
  • Incumbents must be able to pass and maintain Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and Transport Canada security clearances;
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for the U.S. International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR), Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program, and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.
