Successful candidates are eligible for a signing bonus of up to $20,000 plus an additional $15000 relocation assistance (if applicable) with a defined Return of Service contract.
The Chief Power Engineer reports to the Manager, Maintenance & Operations. Is responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation/maintenance of all equipment in the central heating plant, three central refrigeration units and auxiliary equipment at the Victoria General Hospital site, also for the supply of steam to APSEA and the IWK Children’s hospital.
Responsibility for assigned building mechanical systems such as chilled and hydronic systems, chemical treatment programs, steam distribution and condensate collection, steam traps and monitoring the heating and air conditioning equipment via the building management control system.
The Chief Power Engineer must also liaise, communicate and work with the other trades onsite supervisors to complete repairs, equipment replacement and upgrades, problem solving and mutual assistance as required.
Due to the nature of this position the Chief Power Engineer is responsible under the Technical Safety Act of Nova Scotia, Power Engineers Act and Regulations to respond 24/7 to any critical operational issues in the Power plant. Therefore this puts the Chief Power Engineer in a position where they must adhere to the Technical Safety Act Power, Engineers Act and Regulations.
This position consistently requires the Chief Power Engineer to balance the needs and wants of the NS Health authority with the legal requirements under the Boiler & Pressure equipment regulations regarding the operation, maintenance & repair of boilers, pressure vessels, high pressure piping systems and refrigeration plants.

$52.77 - $62.75 hourly ($100,639 - $122,362 annual)
