Nova Scotia Power’s 3-year rotational Engineer in Training program is designed to develop our Engineers in Training (EIT) technical and leadership skills to enable them to become technical and people leaders at Nova Scotia Power and shape the future of our company for our customers. Throughout this three-year program, EITs will work with many of the Energy Delivery teams. At the end of the program, you will have fulfilled 36 months of work experience required toward receiving your Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation.

Business departments you may work in as an Energy Delivery EIT include Distribution Protection, Planning, Standards & Reliability, System Operations, Asset Management and Regional Engineering. We are currently looking to fill six (6) Engineer-In-Training positions as part of our EIT Rotational Program for Energy Delivery to start work in June 2025. In this role you will mainly work out of the metro area with some travel to other areas of the province as required.

As a rotational EIT, you will receive:

  • Work experience alongside other engineering and technical staff to design, build and maintain the systems that deliver electricity to our customers

Key elements of this role include:

  • Rotate through various Energy Delivery roles and locations.
  • Receive training and experience in the various phases of office and field engineering work.
  • Prepare plans, designs, calculations, cost estimates and bills of materials for a variety of projects.
  • Complete tasks in accordance with established codes, standards, engineering practices, drawings and/or other specifications.
  • Perform routine technical surveys and inspections and prepare reports.
  • Respond to storm events and participate in power restoration efforts.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer or Industrial).
  • Registered member or eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Able to function effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and adaptable to learning new computer applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal development.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License, and a willingness to support emergency power restoration outside of normal business hours.

The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel and complete a full background check which includes a Criminal Record check.
