The Maintenance Quality Specialist is a detail-oriented person responsible for monitoring and improving the maintenance control program for ISI. The primary goal of this role is to ensure services and processes meet the organizational quality standards.
This staff position is based at the Halifax Shipyard and reports to the Manager, Maintenance. This position supports the vision, initiatives, and strategy of Irving Shipbuilding. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders supporting the objectives of our team. The scope includes the Shipyard, Marine Fabricators, Woodside, and Bluenose sites.

Responsibilities

  • Audit Compliance
    • Oversee the execution of auditing and compliance of registered processes and best practices including:
    • Lock-out/tag-out, daily planning sessions, toolbox talks, start safe and fire system impairment reporting.
    • Completion of department personnel daily tasks.
    • Regulatory certificate and license renewals are current.
    • Review, investigate, and develop revised plans and process improvements as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Participate in planned reliability improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure the new reliability initiatives are documented, explained, and fully rolled out.
    • Identify internal and external process gaps, and lead initiatives to close the gaps.
    • Educate maintenance staff on quality practices and how to best implement maintenance processes.
    • Liaise with Quality to recognize and offer solutions which will reduce cost and downtime and increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Safety Compliance
    • Develop and maintain dashboard for all maintenance related safety KPI’s.
    • Follow-up on safety concerns and hold both staff and employees accountable for HSE Work Instructions within Facilities / Maintenance scope.
  • Daily Operations Management
    • Continually Manage (weekly update, annual update, format update) and action departmental KPI dashboard as needed.
    • Analyze, audit, and evaluate different metrics for quality assurance within facilities and maintenance scope and follow-up with parties accountable for actions and deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge – education, certificates, licenses, registration, and knowledge required
    • Post secondary diploma or degree in either Engineering, Engineering Technology, Skilled Trades, or equivalent.
    • Strong proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g., word processing, email, excel, and spreadsheets.
    • 3 to 5 years maintenance experience.
  • Technical Skills – required skills to apply knowledge
    • Preference given to a candidate who has maintenance experience.
    • Must have the ability to work effectively with Computerized Maintenance Management System. Proficiency with J D Edwards E1 would be an advantage.
    • Preferably the candidate has troubleshooting skills.
  • Social Process Skills – required skills for effective working relationships
    • Has an in-depth understanding of customer needs and uses it to consistently meet customer expectations.
    • It is necessary that the candidate has well developed and demonstrated communication skills.
    • Implements change initiatives and effectively influence others to drive commitment.
    • Consistently provides relevant information and expertise that adds value to the work of others.
