About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Occupational Wellness, the Wellness and Education Lead will utilize advanced health promotion and educational principles to improve the well-being of Nova Scotia Health staff. This role will apply advanced principles of health promotion, occupational wellness, and adult education to develop, coordinate, and lead comprehensive strategies that enhance staff well-being and organizational health, specifically aligned with recommendations from the Mass Casualty Commission.


The Wellness and Education Lead is responsible for advancing the department’s mission by applying evidence-based practices and frameworks to create supportive, and healthy work environments. The Wellness and Education Lead's primary objective is to improve wellness of staff through the development of targeted wellness programs, educational initiatives, and supportive policies. They will work within the Occupational Health Safety & Wellness team, and work closely with organizational leaders, employee groups, and external stakeholders to drive initiatives that improve staff wellness.

The Wellness and Education Lead is responsible for:

  • Leading the development and execution of comprehensive wellness strategies in collaboration with the Occupational Wellness team, with a focus on content creation and program delivery for all Nova Scotia Health staff.
  • Serving as a key resource for the advisory committee of Nova Scotia Health staff and stakeholders, providing expert guidance on health and wellness topics and program development.
  • Planning, developing, and executing educational initiatives and wellness programs, ensuring they meet organizational needs and leverage current data and evidence-based practices.
  • Designing and implementing communication strategies that effectively convey wellness messages and enhance employee engagement in health promotion activities.
  • Mobilizing resources and supporting capacity-building efforts within teams and departments to improve overall health and wellness.
  • Working with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider to maximize service utilization and offer staff opportunities to improve personal health practices.
  • Integrating evidence-based health promotion frameworks and safety management systems into organizational practices and initiatives.
  • Developing and nurturing a broad network of relationships within and outside the Nova Scotia Health community to support the creation of a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Contributing to policy development and review processes to ensure they align with and enhance the health and wellness goals of the organization.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master’s degree in Health Promotion/Education, Organizational Development, Community Development, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in workplace health promotion, OR Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion/Education, Organizational Development, Community Development, or a related field, with at least 4 years of relevant experience in workplace health promotion.
  • Demonstrated expertise in content delivery, program development, and educational facilitation.
  • Strong planning, strategic thinking, and evaluation skills, with the ability to lead and influence wellness initiatives effectively.
  • Proven ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with colleagues and leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to engage and educate large audiences.
  • In-depth knowledge of health promotion theory, and adult learning principles.
  • Experience in building capacity and supporting sustainable health promotion practices.
  • Understanding of organizational dynamics, and health systems.

Hours

  • Permanent, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • This position is flexible in location across Nova Scotia. It is designated as hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote and on-site work.

Compensation and Benefits

$37.61 - $47.01 Hourly
