Position Overview:

The Cable Assembler will demonstrate the ability to assemble cable harnesses and circuit boards within prescribed tolerances and time frames as well as operate coding, cutting, and testing equipment. He/she will be conversant with related safety regulations, interpretation of blueprints and other technical documentation. The location of this position may vary between Hammonds Plains and Halifax Stanfield International Airport which provides exposure to a variety of programs from formboard to on-aircraft assemblies.

What You Will Do:

  • Working under general supervision, the Cable Assembler manufacturers and repairs electrical harnesses for installation by soldering, crimping, twisting, encapsulation, and testing with the assistance of work instructions, drawings and various technical publications, under minimal supervision.
  • Assembles assemblies using Production Control cards, wire assembly operation sheets and/or other Company or customer's process specifications.
  • Solders to standards established by the Company with regular requalification.
  • Operates cut & coding as well as labeling machines.
  • Fabricates cable assemblies by grouping, twisting, sleeving, potting, tying and prepares assemblies for stores.
  • Operates automatic test equipment for acceptance testing of wire assemblies or circuit boards.
  • Manufacturers/repairs circuit board and component wiring with assistance from engineering drawings, technical manuals or other directives.
  • Assists on-job-training of other cable assemblers.

What You Will Bring:

  • Entrants into the Cable Assembler trade will have a High School Leaving Certificate or Vocational/Trade School training course.
  • Training in a mechanical/electrical field and a blueprint reading course will be an asset.
  • To reach the top of this classification, the incumbent will have four (4) year's experience as a Cable Assembler and completed all O.J.T. performance objectives.
  • Incumbents must be able to pass and maintain Public Works Government Services Canada (PWGSC) and Transport Canada security clearances.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies. Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and to fully comply with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 5S activities in your area.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program.
