As Canada’s only provincial museum dedicated to the story of work and workers, the Museum of Industry offers the largest galleries of exhibits in Atlantic Canada. About Our Opportunity


The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the operation, care and maintenance of the Museum of Industry site including infrastructure, vehicles, grounds, building interior cleaning and equipment.

The Maintenance Worker assists with site maintenance and equipment inventories, security checks and opening and closing procedures. This position supports and assists co-workers with set up, take down and other tasks to ensure the success of programs, facility rentals, exhibits and events.

This position reports to the Museum Manager.

Primary Accountabilities

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Workplace policies, procedures, and all safe work practices.
  • Provides professional customer service and relations to visitors.
  • Provides interior cleaning, general janitorial duties, snow removal on walkways and building entrances, and lawn and exterior property maintenance.
  • Working in varying weather conditions and wet/cold environments.

Qualifications and Experience


To be a successful in this role you must have completion of Grade 10 plus two years related experience working in a maintenance environment. This includes knowledge and experience in general handyperson skills, painting, building and grounds maintenance, and general equipment maintenance as required.

This role requires an individual who has a positive attitude and ability to speak confidently and professionally when addressing visitors and staff within the facility. You work well independently and in team settings, valuing and respecting a diverse and inclusive environment.
You also have basic computer skills, including use of software packages such as Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word).

You also have:

  • Experience and strong knowledge of maintenance operations
  • Strong aptitude for safe operation of equipment, general maintenance, and repair
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and sanitation requirements
  • Certification in First Aid and WHMIS

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks

Equivalency


Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in theirapplication.

This is a full-time position. Flexibility and availability on weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays is required to accommodate Museum hours of operation and special events.

Pay Grade: MOS 07

Salary Range: $1,645.29 - $1,686.75 Bi-Weekly
