Description

This position provides required general cleaning and acts as store helper.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Custodial:

  • Works independently or cooperatively with team members to complete tasks on schedule and according to quality standards.
  • kitchens, washrooms, and other rooms.
  • Empties trash bins and dispose of trash in the garbage bins.
  • Removes snow from all pedestrian walkways and exit doors.
  • May perform general repairs which do not require certification
  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property, keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice, including salting, litter pick up

Health and Safety:

  • Contributes to the safety of staff, guests, customers, and clients (e.g., clear fire exits, cleans spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the building, keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice, including salting, litter pick up etc.)
  • Must complete WHIMS training
  • Works in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Accepts donations from customers and put in designated area
  • Checking electronics to ensure in working condition to sell
  • Take recycle/season bins to the basement as needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Internal: Thrift Store Manager, Staff

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Thrift Store Manager

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The incumbent is required to lift/move up to 40+ pounds with no assistance from others.
  • The incumbent's work environment is typically in the entire facility
  • The performance of the job requires cleaning and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
  • The performance of the job requires moderate attention when handling hazardous chemicals
  • Handles garbage
  • Odors, exposure to toxic chemicals, electrical hazards, and infectious diseases.
  • Works in various weather conditions when working outdoors.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum 6months prior related experience including life skills, custodial, and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.
  • Current WHMIS certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Valid Driver's License and a current copy of a Driver's abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.
  • Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Part Time (Contract Position) - 21 Hours per week

Store hours Monday to Saturday 10:00am - 5:30pm, No evenings, Closed Holidays.
