Seeking an environmental professional to join our team and work on various environmental projects in Yellowknife and beyond. The successful candidate should be independent and comfortable with leading and training field assistants. Looking for a candidate with a junior/intermediate experience level who has developed a strong commitment to health and safety and can adapt to new challenges.

About the Role:

The Environmental Technician is responsible for various activities related to project execution. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting field programs related to soil sampling, air quality monitoring, groundwater monitoring, environmental monitoring, wildlife monitoring, fish and fish habitat assessments, etc.
  • Coordinating with Project Managers and external field contractors.
  • Supporting project reporting, including researching, gathering data, and drafting of reporting text.
  • Maintain and calibrate field equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborating in the development and improvement of health and safety procedures.
  • Facilitate on-the-job-training for field assistants, where possible.

This is a seasonal hourly contract from mid April - late September 2025 with the possibility of extension. Field work may include days up to 12 hours in length.


What you'll need

For an individual to be successful in the role of Environmental Technician, they will need to meet the following education and /or experience criteria:

  • A post-secondary diploma, or relevant experience.
  • Approximately 2+ years of industry experience within the environmental field including, but not limited to, environmental monitoring, contaminated sites assessment and remediation, ecology, fish & wildlife, hazardous waste management, and water quality.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with environmental sampling and monitoring equipment.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office programs (i.e.., Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions for potentially long periods at a time.
  • Willingness to travel and work in potentially remote locations.
  • Experience working in mining, contaminated sites, or remote sites is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Yellowknives Dene language, culture, and way of life would be considered assets.
