Job Description:

The Industrial Engineering Manager will identify and evaluate financial opportunities and recommend solutions that will drive overall pipeline effectiveness and continuous improvement. The primary objective of this role is to provide analysis and support for the Premium Manufacturing Network and drive overall excellence in customer service and value within Mars Petcare product segment. The position will also drive timely implementation of these and other initiatives at plants and across segment production lines.

In addition the role will support Mars Supply Excellence (MSE) team members overseeing the Make and Pack functional areas, guiding the Integrated Work Systems/Mars Supply Excellence program to drive operational rigor in data collection, reporting, benchmarking and continuous improvement to positively impact asset utilization and productivity measures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in a Manufacturing setting in the following areas: Production Line Manager and/or Site Industrial Engineer and/or Project Engineer.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of Management experience.
  • An Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Business Management/Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.
  • Continuous Improvement Experience (Proven loss elimination track record through UPS or Kaizen).
  • Project Management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree such as MBA or Masters in a technical function.
  • Six Sigma Certification (Black Belt Certification is a strong asset).
  • Project Management Certification.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Assist in the analysis of new innovation/project ideas for feasibility and financial viability.
  • Manage line trials with clear critical success factors for the NPI process, vendor qualifications, etc.
  • Assist in the evaluation of customization requests.
  • Implement problem-solving/loss-elimination tools on the plant floor to create and sustain a problem solving culture.
  • Facilitate and coach others in daily problem-solving/loss-elimination activities.
  • Own/drive the change management process and ensure adherence.
  • Develop Capital Appropriations Budget activities to facilitate growth.
  • Evaluate future capacity needs and propose the amount and timing of capacity additions as part of a wider network strategy, working closely with regional Network IEs.
  • Assist in tactical capacity and utilization scenarios.
  • Maintain tight and timely communication links to and from the plant to the national office.
  • Recommend and implement tools to monitor and optimize supply performance, with focus on waste reduction, labor utilization, downtime reduction and rate loss elimination
  • Maintain an accurate catalogue of process, product, and packaging capabilities relevant to leveraging existing platforms for growth.
  • Identify and recommend methods to alleviate constraints on equipment and output.
  • Coordinate with plants and operations planners to address short-term supply risks mainly customer service impact.
  • In partnership with the Finance and Engineering Director, develop and follow Capital Projects to ensure timely approval.
  • Provide Project Engineers/CVS Team with target line metrics and financial justification for capital installations.
  • Audit the critical Run to Target Daily Management System and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Own and manage a quarterly production rate review process utilizing production data and creating action plans to close gaps when they arise.
  • Lead labor optimization and waste reduction opportunities through data analysis, trend tracking, and improvement.

  • TPM methodology and practice.
  • Strong coaching and facilitation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of plant systems, equipment, and production systems.
  • Business financials and key performance indicators.
  • Fluent in the following computer applications: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated use of good judgment and decision-making skills with appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong data analysis skills and ability to identify trends - Use of tools such as Minitab.
