How You'll Perform the Role
Reporting to the EHS Manager and working closely with the Operations Management team, the position is responsible for supporting the Health and Safety Management System and OHS initiatives at the plant level
Maintain working knowledge of OHSA and updated Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation.
Maintain the Emergency Response Programs and provide training when necessary.
Conduct Health & Safety orientation for new hires.
Assist in completing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for critical jobs in conjunction with supervisors and specified employees, such as JHSC members.
Coordinate EHS training programs and create training materials where required.
Coordinate, and maintain emergency evacuation plans, including evacuation drills.
Schedule and lead JHSC meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
Provide timely reporting on Health &; Safety statistics to the EHS Manager.
Coach supervisors in performing accident/incident investigations.
Participate in monthly EHS workplace assessments and audits.
Communicate and interact with internal staff, visitors, clients, and vendors.
Manage the contractor safety program: orientation training, records management, and compliance with requirements.
Monitor and update safety goals and KPIs.
Any other duties as may be assigned.
What We Need From You
Minimum completion of the post-secondary diploma, preferably in Health & Safety
2-3 years of experience in occupational health & safety in an industrial establishment, preferably in manufacturing.
Experience in a unionized work environment will be an asset.
Strong ability to interpret legislation and assess EHS issues.
Experience in WSIB claims management is required.
Experience in auditing health and safety management systems.
Thorough knowledge of the OHSA and workers' compensation legislation
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with high attention to detail.
Proficient with database applications and with Microsoft Office applications.
