The Ministry of the Solicitor General is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Coordinator to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of our facilities.

As a Maintenance Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing the scheduling and coordination of maintenance activities within our facility. You will work closely with a team of skilled tradespeople, including plumbers, electricians, maintenance mechanics, and groundskeepers, to ensure that all maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Please note: This is a frontline essential position requiring your physical presence in the office. You must be onsite five days a week and be available for on-call duties.

About us:

The Correctional Services Division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General is responsible for maintaining and operating provincial correctional institutions for adult offenders, 18 years and over, who are serving a sentence of up to two years less a day or who are awaiting criminal proceedings. This ministry is also responsible for the community supervision of persons on probation, conditional sentences and provincial parole.

• Scheduling and coordinating maintenance activities for the facility.
• Collaborating with external stakeholders to manage maintenance projects.
• Handling managerial tasks such as addressing grievances and overseeing recruitment.
• Ensuring the maintenance team operates efficiently and meets all safety and operational standards.
• Providing on-call support as required.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.

Leadership Skills:

• Experience in providing strategic direction, guidance, and coaching to staff or project teams.
• Ability to foster a high-performance, learning-focused environment that promotes growth and continuous improvement.
• Experience engaging team members in a positive, inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and creativity.
• Proven ability to develop and implement practical solutions to unique and complex issues.
• Demonstrated skills in managing financial budgets and human resources, including handling labour relations issues.

Technical Knowledge:

• Knowledge of contract management procedures, reporting, documentation, and ability to prepare cost estimates.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans, understanding project management principles, and managing multiple maintenance projects.
• Understanding of human resources practices, policies, collective agreements, and familiarity with government financial and administrative procedures.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations, safety standards, and construction/renovation requirements, including blueprint reading.
• Technical knowledge of trades work (plumbing, electrical, general maintenance) and ability to ensure timely project completion.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

• Strong communication skills to effectively present information in a clear and concise manner.
• Ability to plan and lead activities within established timeframes.
• Supervisory skills to manage staff and stakeholders in high-pressure situations to resolve problems.
