Your work environment at EXP


EXP's Markham office is currently seeking a Pavement and Materials Engineer-in-Training to join our team. As part of the Geotechnical/Pavement group and reporting directly to Project Managers and Engineers you will be responsible for the field work that may include:

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Carry out pavement testing, sampling and evaluations with specialized equipment
  • Conduct field investigations and inspections to assess the condition of existing pavements
  • Supervision of drilling, soil sampling and identification
  • Preparation of borehole logs and location plans
  • Experience or ability to understand and interpret utility locates
  • Work closely with contractors, consultants and municipal personnel
  • Coordinate project tasks with team members, stakeholders, and subcontractors, ensuring timelines, quality standards, and safety regulations are met
  • Assist project manager or engineers to prepare engineer reports, construction specifications, drawings and cost estimates
  • Carry out field inspections to verify quality of construction works and materials compliances
  • Provide technical and management assistance for engineering projects from residential, commercial or municipalities projects
  • Monitoring site grading activities (including limited surveying)
  • The successful applicant may also explore the material testing of pavement and geotechnical field

What your experience looks like

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Registered as an EIT with PEO
  • Previous relevant experience in pavement design/testing, geotechnical investigation/drilling, material testing, survey, drafting is an asset (including co-op work terms)
  • Previous experience in reading and interpretation of construction drawings, specification and tender documents
  • Valid G driver's license and willingness to travel throughout Ontario job sites also required occasionally
  • Strong Experience in Microsoft Office, working experience with AutoCAD and other Pavement Design or Civil Engineering related software will be an asset
  • Manage assigned work, ensuring effective teamwork, communication, high standards of work quality, organizational performance and continuous learning
  • Proven experience in project coordination and subcontractor management
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions for field investigations
    Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs
