Position Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Maintenance, the Maintenance Supervisor is accountable for promoting excellence in all maintenance activities through leadership and development of staff ensuring that the maintenance department and maintenance processes are streamlined and monitored. The position is responsible for facilities and maintenance management including; implementing efficiencies within current facilities and future development and/or expansion of capacity and facilities. The Maintenance Supervisor supervises maintenance staff, addressing day to day equipment and process challenges. Rotation with Night Shift

Key Accountabilities:

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff responsible for maintenance of the plant including equipment repairs and installations.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing maintenance and repair services (including work orders); review needs with appropriate management staff, identify resources required, allocate resources, and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Develop and manage annual maintenance/engineering costs, analyzing opportunities for savings. This includes ensuring adequate inventory levels of parts and supplies to minimize downtime while reducing inventory costs.
  • Administer the Preventative Maintenance Program with a focus on preventing the plant from equipment breakdown, including inspections, delegation of maintenance activities and tasks, allocation of resources and follow up.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to staff by hiring, reviewing performance and providing feedback, determining training and development needs, and providing coaching and work direction. Develop plans and measurements to ensure improved competencies of mechanical and electrical personnel are established and maintained against future maintenance requirements.
  • Accountable to ensure that the facility is operating safely and efficiently, to maximize the life of equipment and reduce the risk of failure. Ensures equipment and machines have appropriate guarding and protection and works with Health & Safety to resolve any deficiencies. Conducts safety observations and facilitates meetings as required to ensure all employees are adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement in areas of equipment reliability and throughputs, including analysis to identify root cause of downtime and inefficient operations.
  • Responsible for sourcing and supervising third party contractors for repairs and maintenance beyond the scope of workforce. Ensures quality workmanship and completion to our specifications and requirements.
  • Assist workforce with troubleshooting, fixing, and maintaining the plant equipment, machinery and related facilities as required. May perform the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit.
  • Review and/or complete documentation/records to ensure accuracy and completion for Quality Assurance and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Work closely with key department stakeholders to understand the complete production/maintenance objectives and deliverables including plant compliance.
  • Communicate and coordinate regularly with key stakeholders on the status of maintenance projects to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
  • Manage capital projects as required including, AFE proposal, vendor selection, and coordination of activities and personnel.
  • Problem solves and acts as a primary decision maker in department issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years management experience in a trade oriented function.
  • Licensed in Electrical or Mechanical Trade
  • Working knowledge of CAD System and ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Strong project Supervisor skills in planning, scheduling, assigning
  • Strong communication skills required. Must be able to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Hands on individual with proven ability to provide leadership and direction to the maintenance department workforce. This includes, training, coaching and discipline within the guidelines of the facilities policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
