Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Restoration Outreach & Engagement Technical Lead, the Restoration Outreach & Engagement Technician supports landowner and community engagement initiatives by assisting with conservation projects, educational programming, and outreach activities. Working closely with team members, landowners, and community members, the Technician helps deliver workshops, events, and restoration activities to advance Conservation Halton's restoration goals.

  • Work directly with landowners, volunteers, and community members to support restoration activities and provide information about conservation programs.
  • Conduct site visits to assist landowners with planning conservation projects, including the adoption of agricultural best management practices and LID projects.
  • Assist landowners in preparing and submitting applications for cost-share programs, providing guidance and ensuring all necessary documentation is complete.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders to coordinate project activities and timelines.
  • Assist in developing outreach content such as newsletters, social media posts, and factsheets to engage landowners and community members.
  • Support the delivery of workshops, educational programs, and community events to promote conservation initiatives, including assisting with material preparation and event logistics.
  • Collaborate with the Restoration Outreach & Engagement Technical Lead and the marketing and communications team to distribute educational materials and promote programs.
  • Assist with the implementation of restoration projects, including habitat improvements, natural stream channel works, wetland enhancements, tree planting, and invasive species management.
  • Prepare sites for restoration activities, including vegetation control.
  • Track project progress, compile data, and contribute to the preparation of reports and maps on restoration and outreach activities.
  • Inspect landowner projects and prepare financial reimbursement documentation for cost-share programs.

Your Qualifications

  • University Degree and/or post-secondary education in Ecosystem Restoration, Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Outreach, Public Engagement, or a related program.
  • Experience engaging and communicating with diverse audiences, including landowners, volunteers, and community groups, to promote conservation initiatives and encourage stewardship.
  • Experience collaborating with landowners, volunteers, partners, and members of the public to support restoration projects and outreach activities.
  • Experience assisting with planning and facilitating community workshops, events, and educational programming.
  • 1-3 years of experience supporting restoration and enhancement projects, including aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
  • Experience supporting the development and distribution of outreach materials such as factsheets, newsletters, videos or social media posts.
  • Applied knowledge of restoration techniques and principles, including habitat management and invasive species control.
  • Ability to support the organization and implementation of multiple restoration projects and activities.
  • Competence in the use of field equipment and tools for restoration activities.
  • Experience in developing, fostering, and sustaining relationships with landowners, community members, volunteers, and the public.
  • Experience assisting with community workshops, events, and outreach material preparation.
  • Ability to assist with event logistics, including preparing sites, materials, and equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario's flora and fauna, habitat preferences, invasive species, and identification skills.
  • Training and experience in resource management principles and practices, project management, and application of project management tools and techniques.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various locations, as required.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, G Driver's License, and Vulnerable Sector Check.
