Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Science & Monitoring, the Stormwater Management (SWM) Engineer will be responsible for the monitoring and assessment of SWM ponds and Low Impact Development (LID) systems as part of partnerships between Conservation Halton and municipalities and private sector clients within the jurisdiction.

  • Develop and initiate CH's fee-for-service SWM Monitoring program and identify monitoring needs and methods assessments in consultation with the Manager.
  • Support and participate in the successful negotiation of agreements for SWM monitoring services with public and private sector clients.
  • Undertake monitoring and inspection of SWM ponds and LIDs, in accordance with Agreements and approvals.
  • Manage, analyse, and interpret SWM/LID data efficiently and effectively. Provide analysis and reporting to clients.
  • Prepare various project correspondence including project briefs and backgrounders, external communications, and reports of a general and technical nature for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Manage and track multiple projects progress.
  • Establish and manage a data management system for monitoring data collected for the SWM Monitoring program.
  • Prepare timely and accurate project progress updates to the Coordinator, Restoration and Development Monitoring for fee for service projects.
  • Obtain sampling permits and prepare permit report submissions.

Your Qualifications

  • Degree in Water Resources or Civil Engineering, Hydrology, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in SWM and LID design, monitoring and inspections, water resources, and environmental monitoring.
  • Experience using handheld GPS units and air photo interpretation.
  • Designated as a P.Eng. (Professional Engineering), licensed in the Province of Ontario.
  • Strong understanding of SWM principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Understanding of hydrological principles.
  • Strong knowledge of sampling techniques/protocols related to SWM and LID monitoring and inspections.
  • Extensive experience with technological sampling equipment such as water quality metres, ISCO automated samplers and submersible dataloggers.
  • Training and experience in resource management principals, project management and application of project management tools and techniques.
  • Project management training and skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hydraulic stormwater modeling principles, watershed and drainage principles, infrastructure servicing principles.
  • Knowledge of legislation, regulation and policies related to stormwater management and familiarity with stormwater infrastructure design and construction; operations and maintenance.
  • Experience with construction projects is considered an asset.
