As a Lead Payload Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the development and deployment of state-of-the-art payloads and instruments for military, space, and commercial applications, including Earth observation, atmospheric monitoring, space situational awareness, space science, and optical and RF communications. You will take a lead role as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in designing, testing and validating products from prototype to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of space payloads and instruments
  • Support the design of unique instruments from conception, analysis and design through to test and deployment in space
  • Define and support qualification and flight test campaigns
  • Work with a Principal Investigator, Mission Science and Mission Lead and be the main point of point of contact with our internal multi-disciplinary payload team taking ownership of the technical aspects of the payload team's design and development, including aspects of: optical design, electrical and controls design, mechanical design, technical software/firmware development including algorithm selection, thermal analysis, materials analysis, structural analysis, and other monitorial aspects related to space payload system design.
  • Prepare and present designs for internal and external customers at design reviews and technical meetings
  • Lead the payload team in anomaly resolution, fault tree development, troubleshooting, and implementation of technical solutions.
  • Work with subject matter experts to resolve technical challenges.
  • Provide rough orders of magnitude (ROM's) and basis of estimates (BOE's) for project and tasks.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced colleagues on space systems.

The Honeywell building is a controlled goods program environment. Candidates must be eligible for CGP clearance.

MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as physics, engineering, technology, or applied mathematics
  • 5+ years of relevant design and test experience, ideally in a new product development environment
  • 3+ years' experience with optical systems or optical design and knowledge of RF and microwave systems is considered to be an asset
