Job Profile

We are looking for one (1) experienced Planning Technician to join the Planning Services Division team within the Community Development Department. This position is full-time, temporary for 1 year.

What you will be doing

Under the Supervision of the Manager of Site Development, you will:

  • Assist with the completion of various Housing Accelerator Fund Projects, including:

    • Interactive Development Guide (Camino)

    • New Comprehensive Zoning By-law (including new maps, graphics and other visual illustrations)

    • Secondary Plans for Core Areas

    • Housing Needs Assessment

    • Affordable Housing Development of City Owned Lands

    • Administration of New Additional Residential Units Funding Program

  • Complete other planning responsibilities as needed:

    • Review building permit, demolition permit and business license applications for zoning compliance

    • Prepare Planning Information Letters

    • Complete Site Plan Inspections and related reports, including working collaboratively with property owners to resolve deficiencies and release securities

    • Process sign variance and fence variance applications, including writing recommendation memos and reports

    • Respond to planning-related inquiries at the counter and on the telephone and e-mail

    • Assist Planners in processing development applications including Official Plan Amendments, Zoning By-law Amendments, Part Lot Control Exemptions, Site Plans and Condominiums

    • Support Committee of Adjustment Planner as needed

    • Determine and advise on necessary course of action for land use applications, i.e. severances, variances, rezoning, etc.

  • This position works as part of a team with other planning technicians, planners and support staff

Education

Minimum two (2) year College Diploma in Planning or Similar

Experience and Knowledge

Minimum of 1-2 years related Planning experience.

Graphic Design Skills and competency in graphic design / renderings software an asset.

Possession of a current Certified Planning Technician designation or eligible for Registered Professional Planner

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required.

Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.
Valid G driver's license.
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. (may be obtained post offer)

Your compensation

This position is within Grade 7 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an hourly range of $37.41 to $39.76. We offer a comprehensive benefit package and are an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.

Hours of work

The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the collective agreement, however currently are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm., Monday to Friday; some evening hours are required
