There is an opening for Water Meter Technician within the Water Division of the Infrastructure Services Department available immediately. Reporting to the Supervisor of Metering and Compliance, the following requirements apply:
Performs various water meter related tasks independently, including reading, repairs, maintenance and replacements of water meters up to 25mm in diameter
Assists the Industrial Plumber (Water Meters) with water meter related tasks on meters 37mm in diameter and larger (in accordance with the Ontario Building Code) including reading, repairs, maintenance and replacements in chambers and industrial, commercial and institutional settings
Must have a working understanding of all meter functions, for all meter styles and servicing configurations, including proficiency with meter communications protocols and programming
Perform work in designated confined spaces (i.e. meter chambers) as required. Work areas can be dimly lit, with limited space. Bending and crawling is common, as is lifting tools and equipment in excess of 5lbs
Perform water meter investigations of reading and/or billing errors involving communications and/or meter failures, meter access restrictions, potential water theft, and meter/servicing related configuration issues
Performs duties as assigned relating to requirements defined by the water supply by-law (i.e. backflow compliance)
Perform meter testing and verification as required
Heavily involved in interacting with residential water customers, including delivery of meter information or access requests, troubleshooting meter installations by builder/contractor, reviewing/troubleshooting high water consumption and/or large bills with customers
Responsible for accurately recording all meter related specifications on work orders for the maintenance of the active/inactive meter inventory database
Operates property control valves (i.e. curb stops) to isolate water to a property during meter maintenance
1 to 2 years of work-related experience
Grade 12 Diploma with additional courses of study required:
Operator in training (OIT) Water Distribution Certificate
DWD410 Water Metering and Installation Course (800A Apprenticeship Course)
Basic Office Productivity Software and Network Software/Hardware knowledge such as:
Sensus Programming
Maximo (specifications)
Collector/ Field maps software
MDM software (Master data management)
Water meter testing equipment
Sensus device management software RNI (Regional network interface)
Vailtek (Billingsoftware) considered an asset
Possesses a valid "G" License, in good standing
First aid CPR AED
Confined space training
Ability to operate small maintenance tools and hand tools
Meets requirements of Physical Demands Analysis for position
This position is within the outside workers union salary schedule Grade 4 and has an hourly range of:
Starting Rate: $30.72
12 Month Rate: $31.67
24 Month Rate: $32.62
Comprehensive Benefits Package including OMERS Pension applies.
7:00am - 3:00pm, Mon-Fri, Day
1:00pm - 11:00pm, Mon-Thurs, Alternate
